Our Story

KLEV is a western and outdoor clothing brand built for ranch families. It is run by the Klev family in northern Utah and named after the family surname, which came over from Norway three generations ago.

Two hard countries, one idea

A Norwegian farmstead and a Utah ranch are separated by four thousand miles and about a hundred and fifty years. They are not separated by much else.

Both were built by families who understood that the land does not negotiate. You put up what you can before the weather turns. You fix the thing yourself, because the nearest person who could fix it for you is an hour away and busy with his own. You build what you build to outlast you, because the point was never you. The point was the people who come after.

That is the whole idea behind KLEV. Not a look. A way of working that two branches of the same family arrived at independently, on two continents, for the same reason.

Who we build for

Ranch families. People who work outside, whose clothes have a job to do, and who buy the thing once if the thing is made right.

If you have ever thrown a jacket in the truck in October and not taken it out until April, you are who we are thinking about when we pick a fabric.

How we make it

We print with DTF rather than DTG. It costs us more. It holds up better through wash cycles and it does not go chalky and crack after a season, which is the part that actually matters when a shirt gets worn every week instead of on weekends.

We would rather run a small line we stand behind than a wide catalog we do not.

The name

Klev is pronounced with a long e, like cleave. Almost nobody gets it right the first time. We kept the spelling anyway, because it is the name on the family and changing it to make it easier would have defeated the purpose.
